    CBLCA

    October 30, 2022
    Community Association Business/Affairs

This is officially my last President’s Note and the last Newsletter I will be producing. After 6 years in the CBLCA, 1 as Zone Rep, 2 years as Vice President and 3 as President I am officially stepping down in all roles. I will become the Past President, where I will provide what advice, guidance and corporate knowledge that I can to the new Executive. I had no “training” for any of this, my profession is technical in nature, not related to human resources, communications or management. I wanted to get involved and learned from the previous (and current) Executive members. That is all it takes, just time, a little effort and the ability to learn. Community Associations have a cyclic nature to them, as it seems we are in a bit of a down turn, coming out of a pandemic, of course, has been no help. This is the perfect time to get some new blood into the Executive to make sure the CBLCA represents the community and its vision of itself. I have been fortunate to see the CBLCA modernize itself with a new website, newsletter format and membership structure, (if you live here, you are a member). We can’t compete with the allure of Facebook (the community page is not run by the CBLCA and we don’t actively monitor it). This maybe a blind-spot for us. If so, join us and make the CBLCA better. Over the years I have seen Facebook escalate more problems than solve them. I apologize if it appears I am reaching for the reins of my “high horse” again, but Facebook didn’t go and meet with developers, make your concerns heard over LRT2 or Green-Belt incursions, or talk to our friends over in Crystal-Bay (Log-Gate 2022) etc. Community Associations have the freedom to change as the community needs them to and this happens at the Annual General Meeting, that is soon approaching (23 Nov 7-8:30pm). We have decided to do a virtual AGM this year as we need to be able to draw as many people as possible and with COVID still out there, an in-person would deter some, and would likely be a masked event (which I am sure we are all tired of). We still need people to step forward and fill the vacant positions, please take a look below and see if you can help out. If we can’t fill roles, we will have to simply reduce what we do in the community, and that would not be a good thing.

    Kevin Brewer, President, CBCLA.

Though I no longer live in Crystal Beach Lakeview, I do want to thank you, Kevin, and your Executive colleagues for a tremendous contribution to community life and welfare. Yours is a thankless task, almost all of it spent behind the scenes. It may be hard for outsiders to take the full measure of your impact but, take it from me, it is impressive and inspiring. I wish the incoming Executive similar good-spirited, patient, and wise leadership.

Thank you, Kevin, for all your hard work, dedication and professionalism as President of CBLCA. Your work and that of the Executive is very much appreciated over the past many years.

I am so impressed with your leadership. As a “senior” resident who has been “somewhat active” with the community association, I salute you. People like you, make our community special. Thank you
