The Crystal Beach – Lakeview Community Association is having it’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on November 23rd, 7:00- 8:30. We will send out a link the day of the event and have it posted on the front page of the website. We hope to see you then!
The CBLCA executive is an unpaid group of volunteers that look out for the interests of the community. It was the CBLCA that initiated the Lakeview Ditch review, met with the City and Developers about developments in the area, continue to keep a keen eye on the LRT construction and had the ice rink bunker painted. The CBLCA went and talked with the Crystal Bay Association about the infamous “Log-gate” incident of 2022. We continued to organize the booking of Maki House for all those activities, we financially backed youth summer sports and the Canada day Street Party. In “normal” years we hold the Winter Carnival and Wheel Day events for the community. We even do Newsletters!
The CBLCA Election:
Here is a list of the Official positions in the Executive, and the current person in that role and their intentions for next year. All positions are open for residents of Crystal Beach – Lakeview to run for, so if you see a role you would like, the incumbent maybe happy to try a different role. The Past President is not an electable position, as their role is to help the new president transition into that role. If you have any interest in any of these roles please reach out to me with any questions (CBLCApresident@gmail.com).
Why Join?
For myself, I joined the CBLCA for two reasons; to get involved in this great community and to get to know more people in the community (I have no kids, nor do I have a dog…). Working in the CBLCA Executive has allowed me to meet people from all over the neighbourhood and make a few friends. I have a better appreciation of municipal affairs and the thin thread that holds cities / communities together. I have used this analogy before: It’s like hiking, most of the time it takes work and you sometimes wonder why you are even doing this! But then you get to the top, or in this case, hold that community event, a successful meeting, get that sense of accomplishment, and at that point you remember why you do this!
About the President – I have decided not to run again for president, I have done this role for 3 years, 2 years as Vice President and one year as Zone Rep. I firmly believe that it is important to have new people taking on this role every few years to keep the CBLCA fresh. While this can sound like an intimidating position for the uninitiated, it really isn’t. Good organizational skills, the ability to listen and to use the knowledge of the other Exec members are the keys to success. I will become the Past President and provide as much – or as little guidance as you request. You will also notice that our Vice President has also decided not to run again after 2 years of service. This puts the CBLCA in an unfortunate position, and we need some residents to step forward and get involved. There is a natural ebb and flow with volunteer groups, we are ebbing right now and need people to fill positions. All you need to a desire to help and basic organization skills and a little free time once a month.
The AGM is an important yearly event for the CBLCA. It allows us to get much needed feedback from the community. It allows you to vote for the new and returning members of the executive and legitimizes the association. If you like what we do; come out and support us, if you don’t like what we do come out and tell us!
