We have news on various projects that are going on around here.
Lakeview Ditch Project
The last report on our overflowing Lakeview ditches covered both City View and Lakeview, but the projects now seem to have been separated, and a meeting was held recently about the City View ditch construction.
We poked around and found an engineer who told us that construction on the Lakeview ditches will start in the summer of 2026 and a public meeting will be held in the fall of 2025. We’ll write more closer to the fall meeting.

Holly Acres Paths
The LRT2 representative says, “The timing for re-opening this [west] section of pathway is contingent on receiving design approvals from the City and Ministry of Transportation (MTO) approval as well as the completion of other work in the area. There was a hydro conflict requiring MTO approval on MTO lands. The earliest this section can re-open is the second half of 2025. At that time, the connectivity will be reinstated, and work will commence on the opposite [east] side impacting multi-use pathways (MUPs) as the area is built to the final approved design. I believe we should ask the subject matter experts in November of 2025 what to expect in 2026 to get a clear picture of remaining work and then ask for a suggested timeline for the specific area. This file remains open.”
Well, can we be glad that both paths won’t be closed at the same time?! Construction. Everybody’s favourite. But think how great that train will be when we get it! 2027.
The New Zoning Bylaw
The City released the second draft of the new zoning bylaw on March 20. We’re looking at it now and will probably have more to say next month. If you want to have a look too, see New Zoning By-law on Engage Ottawa. Click 3D Digital Twin Map and look up your own address to see its zoning designation. Then, see if you can figure out how many dwellings are allowed on your lot, or your neighbour’s. Figure out parking and trees.
Transportation Master Plan Update
Well, to be truthful, we didn’t find out anything new about the Transportation Master Plan (TMP), part 2 update but rumour has it that the City is about to release the update at the end of March. Then public engagement on the draft Capital Infrastructure Plan and investment scenarios will begin. Where do you want transit or roads? (This is not so much about cycling. Active transportation requirements were planned in the TMP part one.)
We’re on tenterhooks. If you want to get it hot off the press, keep an eye on Engage Ottawa at Transportation Master Plan Update.
