Hi!
For those of you who don’t know me – I’m Nicolas Martinez and the newly acclaimed president of the Crystal Beach Lakeview Community Association. My family and I moved to the neighbourhood in the fall of 2017 looking for a little more space as our kids were getting bigger and I’ve always been a fan of living along our city’s best geographic feature (in my opinion) the Ottawa River.
I studied political science and law at Carleton University and work in the federal government as a project manager in areas like IT systems development, economic modeling, survey development and the use of earth observation in official statistics. I’m passionate about public service and, needless to say, I’m a big believer in the role that community organizations like the CBLCA play in civic life and in shaping the type of community we live in.
Before I go on to outline my priorities for the CBLCA this year, I’d like to take a moment to thank the outgoing members of the executive for their service to the community over the past year(s) – (Kevin Brewer, Ian McConnachie, Suzanne Boisvenu and Jane Elhusseini). Your efforts have been greatly appreciated. I know I speak for those of us carrying on in saying we have some big shoes to fill!
My goals for this year include a continuation of business from the previous executive, while focusing on a return of key CBLCA activities including our Winter Carnival and Wheel Day which have been on an extended hiatus through much of COVID. Stay tuned for more news on these events in the future!! Additionally, I’d like to touch base with the community in the near future via an updated community survey to take our pulse and provide better direction/terms of reference for our CBLCA sub-committees as they pursue the important work as the face of the community.
There are a few vacant positions for Zone Reps (1 & 5) as well as Communications Chair. If you feel like you would be interested in stepping forward please reach out anytime (cblcapresident@gmail.com). The commitment is typically a couple hours per month and is really based on your ability to commit more time to specific tasks beyond that.
I’m regularly out and about in the neighbourhood with my wife/kids/dog around Maki and Dick Bell Parks, feel free to stop me and say “hi” anytime.
Sincerely,
Nicolas Martinez
CBLCA President
