Hey Everyone, Nic here, while you may have seen me commenting occasionally in our community Facebook Page, I’ve seen a few questions about where the CBLCA has been following the flood. While some of our activities have been visible, others probably haven’t been if you don’t know everyone on the executive and/or if you’ve missed their advocacy online or at a local information session.
Long story short, over the past several weeks, the CBLCA has been working steadily behind the scenes to support our neighbourhood in the aftermath of the July 1st flood. Our board members have been dealing with the impacts in our own homes while also coordinating outreach, writing letters to City staff and elected officials, and examining the root causes and contributing factors within our local watershed. We’ve also been gathering information, documenting resident experiences, and connecting with partners who can help shape long‑term solutions.
You may have noticed that we’ve been relatively quiet publicly. This was intentional. In the immediate response period, our priority was to ensure that communication from the City, provincial partners, and support organizations reached residents clearly and without competing messages. Now that those channels are well‑established, we’re shifting into the next phase of our work.
Looking ahead, the CBLCA—through the new TIP Flood Subcommittee—will continue advocating for our community. This includes pushing for stronger watershed management, improved infrastructure planning, and coordinated action across all levels of government to reduce the likelihood of future events like the July 1st flood. We will also keep residents informed, and involved as recovery continues.

As we continue recovering together, let’s keep supporting one another with patience and kindness, and remember that our elected officials and City staff are working hard under immense pressure. Treating everyone with respect will help us move forward as a stronger, more connected community.
