    Moodie Station Design Proposal

Mark Hollett came up with some excellent ideas for improving the design of Moodie Station and on November 12, CBLCA sent them to Rosanna Tyrer, the City’s LRT2 project manager, to Glen Gower, Chair of Transit Commission, and to Councillor Kavanagh.

Here’s what the cover email said,

“Members of our Crystal Beach Lakeview community have expressed a great deal of concern about the current design of Corkstown Road, particularly about the intersection of the Watts Creek multi-use pathway and Corkstown Road. It’s probably the community’s number one issue. The community association has looked again at the diagrams for Moodie Station. We think the design can be made much safer and more efficient with a couple of minor tweaks. Our suggestions are shown in the attached slides.

Slide 1 The bus egress to Moodie Drive Bayshore station, not Moodie station was originally intended to be the terminus of the Confederation Line. When it was recognized that Bayshore could not handle the number of buses, the terminus was switched to Moodie, but the design of the bus exit route from Moodie Drive was never corrected to handle the increased load of buses. The space can be adequate though, if the design is changed. We think that our recommended exit route would allow the buses to tee up easily without clogging Corkstown Rd.

Slide 2 The intersection of the Watts Creek multi-use pathway and Corkstown Road We can gain better connectivity around the intersection, better sight lines, and smoother road corners, by moving the intersection slightly west of the sharp bend in Corkstown Road. (Note that the proposal would also require minor changes to the landscape plan.)

We hope that our suggestions may prevent surprises and delays in getting the line up and running, not to mention incidents, injuries, and even deaths.

    Thank you for your attention,”

The same day, the project manager replied, “Thank you for your email. I have looped in the Stage 2 team and we will review your email and provide a response. Please note that due to the technical nature of your request that it may take some time for us to provide a response.”

Excellent proactive approach to a bad design. Hoping for a transparent discussion with city staff on this community altering never ending re-purposing of that green space.
      Nice work bringing this forward.

Thank you, Paul. I’m grateful for your encouragement. I thought it was an excellent proactive approach to a bad design too.

Thank you. The current design is dangerous. Soon or later accidents will occur. Hopefully the City accepts your proposal.
