    Water Rate Structure Review

In related news, as they say, the City is looking for feedback on how to recover costs to deliver water services.

“For stormwater billing, one of the options that staff have been exploring is the idea of using the amount of impervious surfaces on a property as the basis for charges. Impervious surfaces are areas on a property that are considered highly resistant to water absorption, such as pavement, asphalt, concrete, brick, building material and/or structure rooftops.”

For more information and to complete the Water Rate Review survey, visit https://ottawa.ca/en/city-hall/city-news/newsroom/have-your-say-citys-water-rate-structure-review before the end of July 2024. The survey itself is at engage.ottawa.ca/rates.

Well. Yes. You’re right. Of course. But this one’s in a good way. I guess. Stick and carrot. Tax the “bad behaviour”–hard surfaces that contribute to stormwater issues and reward the “good behaviour”–incentives for managing stormwater runoff and basement flooding. Actually seems kind of fair. I guess.
