The National Capital Commission (NCC) is deciding what to with certain parcels of land, saying, “You can share your vision and ideas for how these spaces can be used for parks, housing, recreation, Indigenous-led spaces, seniors’ homes, or a combination of uses.”
For more information, see last month’s CBLCA article, “NCC Selling Land Near Us.”
We sent ideas
The CBLCA Transportation, Infrastructure, and Planning Committee sent our ideas to terrainspublics-publiclands@tpsgc-pwgsc.gc.ca, copying Anita Vandenbeld, MP for Ottawa West Nepean and Councillor Kavanagh. Here’s what we said:
“Thank you for the opportunity to provide suggestions for properties the National Capital Commission (NCC) is making available. The Crystal Beach Lakeview Community Association has ideas about two parcels near us:
- Parcel 02578 1730 Richmond Road across from Silver Spring Farm
- Parcel 04230 Baseline Road at Cedarview, across Baseline from the Queensway Carleton Hospital
1. Residential use of some kind seems appropriate, and it could help strengthen public transit ties between Crystal Beach Lakeview, and Bells Corners, our centre of commerce.
2. You might spend some space on community gardens. The community gardens that were in that area and enjoyed by Bayshore residents were scooped out to make the chasm for Highway 416 and piled into a hill between Crystal Beach Lakeview and Bells Corners many years ago.
3. Be cautious about shadows that might impact the Silver Spring Farm and Shouldice Farms agricultural lands.
4. Development should adhere to the City’s Official Plan, Schedule C13 – Scenic Routes. The NCC, the City, and the Crystal Beach Lakeview Community Association dropped the ball on protecting the Scenic Capital Entry Route to Ottawa by allowing the LRT light maintenance and storage facility to be built at the foot of the Kanata Hill. The view from the Kanata hill is still beautiful though, and an asset to the nation’s capital. Safeguard it.
Thank you again for the opportunity to give our thoughts.”
Do you have ideas for this land near us?
You too, can send your ideas and proposals to terrainspublics-publiclands@tpsgc-pwgsc.gc.ca. Let the CBLCA know what you’re thinking too.
