Much of CBL Now Eligible for Rain Ready Ottawa Rebates

Rain Ready Ottawa (RRO) is a City of Ottawa program that helps homeowners manage rainwater on their properties.

    RRO offers:

    • Information and resources on how you can manage rainwater and protect your property
    • Free online learning courses on projects you can install at home to reduce runoff
    • Rebates of up to $5,000 to help you install proven rainwater management practices. (Eligibility requirements apply.)
Areas near Graham and Stillwater Creek

The rebate part of the program (for priority areas) now includes parts of our community near Graham and Stillwater Creeks. The following map specific to Bay ward shows the updated priority area boundaries (in blue). Addresses within this area are now eligible for RRO rebates.

Through RRO, eligible property owners can get up to $5,000 to install the following:

    • Downspout redirections and Rainwater Collection
    • Soakaway Pits and Infiltration Trenches
    • Permeable Pavement
    • Rain Gardens
    • Certified Design Work

Measures like these can help Ottawans better manage their stormwater onsite, protecting our waterways and natural features from the damage caused by runoff, while helping individuals build climate resiliency around their home in face of increasing rainfall events.

More details can be found in the Rain Ready Ottawa Applicant Guide.

Note: To see if you qualify for rebates, enter your address at Rain Ready Ottawa-Eligibility.

    Eligibility for the whole community

Everybody in CBL, including those not eligible for rebates can access a series of free online eLearning courses at Rain Ready Ottawa eLearning (talentlms.com), and a list of trained and certified professional rain-friendly landscapers at Fusion Landscape Professionals.

Note: If you are interested in having someone from Rain Ready Ottawa come to talk to us, say so in the comments. If there are enough of us, we’ll see if we can pull something together.

My backyard floods in the Spring, and during heavy rain storms.
I would be interested as well.

So the light red area is excluded from the rebates.
How did you determine this to be “much of”?
Even if that’s technically accurate it looks more like 50:50.
Notably everyone along the river is excluded except for nearby Westboro, McKellar Park, Woodpark, Lincoln Heights, Britannia Bay and Heights.
I wonder exactly how the determination is made. Consideration must include population density and the local drainage infrastructure.
I guess I should really be asking the Councillor.

Yes, you’re correct; the title should read “Some of ..” or “Part of…” I wrote “Much of” Crystal Beach Lakeview too quickly, It is only a few streets near Stillwater Creek and Graham Creek.

I did ask. The decision is made by staff, not councillors, so it’s not political. The idea is to have the most bang for the buck–encourage retention of stormwater where it is most likely to get into the creeks. The hope is that the program will be extended to less vulnerable areas as funds become available.

          Hi Kate,
Geoff Kelland, if you remember myself and Romie (friends of Sue Wheeler).
First a bit of background. We now live in Crystal Beach in a co-tenancy, The Village At the School Yard. The co-tenancy is similar in some respects to a condominium, but is not covered by the Condominium Act. It is a “Private” managed by an elected Owners Committee. We own and are responsible for maintenance, repair and replacement of all our infrastructure: Roads , side walks, sewers, water supply, fire hydrants etc. and my current interest, a Storm Water Management Pond. I am trying to establish what maintenance the STM requires and wondered if you knew anyone who could help me discover that
