CBLCA has been fighting for over 40 years to have safe cycling and pedestrian access over highway 417 to Bells Corners, our centre of commerce. The good news is that the Moodie path is on the map in the updated Master Transportation Plan. The bad news is that it’s planned for a “later phase”. A phase takes seven to ten years, so the Moodie path could take another 20 years or more.
Impact of New Ways to Bus
The decision to take so long to build the Moodie path was made before OC Transpo’s decision to cut our bus service with “New Ways to Bus”. As of April 27, our local 58 bus will no longer go to Bells Corners, but stop at Bayshore.
Bus route 57 will not change and will continue to go from DND along Moodie to Bells Corners, so if you can get to DND, the stop on the Moodie Bridge or Bayshore Station, you will be able to connect to the 57 and get over the Queensway safely. Currently, crossing the Queensway by foot or by bike on Moodie Drive is not recommended. Even getting to the Moodie bus stops is risky.
How to support the Moodie Drive bike path
- Before May 12, go to the Transportation Master Plan Update page on Engage Ottawa
- At Survey #2: Questionnaire regarding road, transit and active transportation projects and priorities: click the survey you want to complete.
- In section 1, question 2, answer that you think active transportation project 84, Moodie Drive should be moved from a later phase to phase 1.
- In section 1, question 3, answer that active transportation project 84, Moodie Drive is the most important to you.
You can support either or both answers by adding that project 84, Moodie Drive is even more important now that we have lost bus service to Bells Corners with New Ways to Bus.
