This year marks 200 years since Ottawa was founded in 1826 as Bytown. During our meetings at Maki House this year, the members of Ottawa Olde Forge Rug Hooking made a series of hooked rugs to commemorate Bytown’s Bicentennial with designs based on places in Ottawa or its history. This project was our group’s response to the Historical Society of Ottawa’s Bytown 200 Challenge.
Our Bytown Bicentennial rug hookings were displayed at City Hall on Heritage Day, at the Osgoode Township Museum in June and July, and just recently at the Bytown Museum for its Colonel By Day on August 3rd.

Ottawa Olde Forge Rug Hooking has been meeting at Maki House since 2001. We’re grateful to the Crystal Beach Lakeview Community Association for providing this lovely community space for our creative endeavours.
