    Watts Creek Pathway Closure

The National Capital Commission (NCC) wishes to let you know that the Trans Canada multi-use pathway between Crystal Beach Drive and the Moodie LRT Station in construction will be closed to replace a culvert at Watts Creek with a new pedestrian bridge starting Monday, November 13, 2023.

Pedestrians and cyclists will be asked to follow the detour along Corkstown Road. The work will not have any impact on adjacent roads, but motorists should be mindful of pedestrians and cyclists using the detour.

The work is scheduled until February 2024.

For further details, please consult the advisory on the NCC website.

This says there will be no impact on motorists. I disagree. There will be increased bicycle traffic on corkstown road which will make it more hazardous collisions between motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.
This plan is full of dangers.

Well, the NCC does warn motorists that there will be increased cycling and pedestrian traffic on Corkstown. I agree that there is danger, but I hope it is minimized by the time of year the construction is being done.

This is Roger from the Ottawa West Winter Trail. Please note that the NCC has told us it will be done sooner – first week of Jan. We shall see!

Thank you, Roger, I didn’t know that. I hope so. We’ll see indeed!

This plan states, “The work is scheduled until February 2024.” It does not have an end date. Is this a forever construction site or will there be a planned end date. Or is this possibly the same schedule as the LRT on the never-never plan.

I don’t like lack of clarity around around delivery schedules either. Is it asking too much though to want a winter construction project to have a date more precise than February 2024? I don’t know. I don’t know enough about winter construction projects.
I do try to cut the LRT 2 folks some slack. Construction and detours are annoying, sometimes dangerous, but I think we have to put up with a certain amount of misery if we’re ever going to have decent public transit. I’m prepared to suck up some misery. For me, it’s the final outcome that matters, not the small annoyances along the way.
