Following approval of the City of Ottawa’s New Official Plan, the committee has turned its attention to the various Master Plans that detail specific actions going forward. The city is encouraging involvement of its citizens as these plans are being developed. Phase 3 of the Transportation Master Plan is now available with the draft TMP and the opportunity to participate in a number of surveys on components of the TMP.
Our committee has worked hard to get our suggestions for walking, cycling and transit into the city planning process. We are pleased to see many of these efforts on city candidate lists and lists of priority projects. Now, we need your help to increase the possibility of these projects making it onto the “short list”. We are also trying to collaborate with neighbouring communities in supporting these mutually beneficial projects. This is all part of the effort to better connect and protect our community for the future. Please take the time to fill in the surveys noted above as well as the online engagement tool linked here for the list of priority projects from 2023 onward.
To give you some examples of success to come, the current infrastructure list shows planning for resurfacing of Moodie Drive from Carling Ave to Fitzgerald Rd in Bells Corners in the next 2-3 years. This will also occur for Holly Acres Rd, in the same time frame. The two Multi-Use-Pathways on Holly Acres Rd are also on the list for resurfacing in that period.
There are projects under consideration, seen through the active transportation candidate list tool linked above, where we would request you indicate your support. These include:
Pedestrian Candidate Projects:
Sidewalk on Moodie south of Crystal Bay School
Cycling Candidate Projects:
Moodie Dr. from 417 to Fitzgerald Rd. in Bells Corners
Richmond Rd. from Carling Ave. to Bayshore Drive
Feasibility Study Projects:
Carling Ave. Beachburg Rail Underpass
There will be further work on city infrastructure that your CBLCA will continue to work towards over the coming years. This future work is important for our entire community, but not possible without these current candidates making it onto the short list. This is a very important moment for our community to get the attention of city planners. Deadline for submissions is February 18. Please help us now.
