  • TTIC – CBLCA Comments on Provincial Bills 3, 23, and 39

    CBLCA

    January 3, 2023
Community Association Business/Affairs, Environmental, Other, Transportation, Transit and Infrastructure

Like other community associations, environmental groups, and municipalities, the CBLCA was shocked and overwhelmed by the lack of time for public engagement on Bill 23, the sheer volume and complexity of the bill, and its audacity. Bills 3, 23, and 39, had all been passed by the time we sent our comments and asked that the legislation be repealed. We sent our comments anyway to the following:

    • Hon. Doug Ford, Premier, Province of Ontario
    • Hon. Steve Clark, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing
    • Members of the Standing Committee on Heritage, Infrastructure and Cultural Policy
    • Ms. Chandra Pasma, MPP Ottawa West Nepean, Province of Ontario
    • Ms. Theresa Kavanaugh, Councillor, Bay Ward, Ottawa
    • Mr. Mark Sutcliffe, Mayor of Ottawa
    • Federation of Citizens’ Associations of Ottawa

You can read the CBLCA’s submission at Comments on Bill 23, More Homes Built Faster Act, Bill 3, Strong Mayors, Building Homes Act, and Bill 39, Better Municipal Governance Act.

Thank you to the CBLCA for your thorough and insightful comments on the above pieces of provincial legislation. If the Ontario government chooses to be remain deaf to the concerns raised, I hope that the Association of (over 400) Ontario Municipalities (AMO) will collectively resolve to refuse to comply, and, if necessary, raise a legal challenge against the province.
