President’s Message for November 2021

Greetings Crystal Beach Lakeview. It was great to see kids roaming the streets “trick-or-treating” and all the decorations throughout the community as we crawl back to “normal times.”

You’ll see in this newsletter that things are getting back to normal at Maki House, and will hopefully stay that way. The CBLCA would like to thank the Rotary Club for a much appreciated donation to the association from their recent yard sale. At the end of October, we held our first Trivia Night (online), which was a lot of fun. We hope to see more residents sign up for this event in the future when we can meet in person. Also, I’d like to offer a shout-out to the residents who participated in the Cleaning the Capital event.

Maki Park users will notice a new addition to the park, in the shape of a small “bunker.” This shed was installed by the City to house the snow blower and other tools used by the Maki ice rink crew. While looking a little bleak at present, we are working with the City to add a little colour and maybe a shrub or two.

Lastly, due to the need to notify the community 30 days in advance, we have moved the Annual General Meeting (AGM) to Dec. 1 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. This will be on Zoom to make it easy for everyone to attend. We will follow the same format as last year: a speech or two, a presentation on the accomplishments of the past year, nominations and election, and a Q&A. Councillor Theresa Kavanagh will also share a few words.

Why should you attend? Imagine our community without the CBLCA. No Winter Carnival or Wheel Day. Maki House would be fully managed by the City, so local groups would no longer get free use of the facility. Residents would have to rely on the Citizen or other local news outlets to stay informed about developments such as Villa Lucia. The community would have to form ad-hoc groups every time an issue came up.

We are always looking for new members and ideas – come to the AGM and see what we’re about and how you can help. Email with “AGM RSVP” in the subject line and we’ll send you the Zoom invite.

Kevin Brewer,

President, CBLCA
