We are truly lucky to live so close to the Ottawa River here in Crystal Beach Lakeview. It not only provides us with our drinking water but also a source of pleasure for long walks along the riverbank, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and boating fun!
But the Ottawa River has been under constant pressure from human activity, not only from recreational activities but also from nuclear waste, sewage overflow, pollution, and more.
The Ottawa Riverkeeper is a registered charity that started in 2001 as a licensed member of the Waterkeeper Alliance, an international grassroots advocacy organization founded by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. A waterkeeper monitors a body of water to identify threats, advocate for compliance with environmental laws, and responds to citizen concerns.
If you enjoy the river, take a look at the Ottawa Riverkeeper website and discover some of the many ways you can get involved in fostering a swimmable, drinkable, fishable Ottawa River Watershed, for everyone.
