I am not sure what to say about 2020 so far, and it’s only half over! However, it is a good time to acknowledge that we are fortunate to live in such a great community. We live on the edge of the greenbelt, close to the Ottawa River, and have an open and friendly community. As we slowly adjust to a “new normal” I still see a lot of people walking the neighbourhood – hopefully a routine that will continue. There is no better way to get to know your neighbours than to start with a simple nod hello as you pass on the street.
Although the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the activities and events we look forward to each year, including Wheel Day, summer sports programming and street parties, the executive team and committees have continued to meet virtually to continue as much of our work as possible on issues that matter to our community.
CBLCA is commencing our summer break period and will resume regular activities in September, with our AGM to be held sometime in the fall. While we are not holding meetings over the summer, we are still looking out for the community’s various interests through the tireless efforts of your Transportation Transit and Infrastructure Committee (TTIC). This includes the LRT2, the Lakeview Ditches, and the various developments that affect our community, 100 Bayshore and 3368 Carling to name a few. We will also continue our financial support to the local food bank (FAMSAC) for COVID-19 relief over the summer with monthly $250 donations. We will revisit this donation in the fall as the situation evolves.
Over the summer, we encourage you to consider if you would like to get involved with CBLCA, whether by volunteering at an event, joining a committee or becoming a member of the executive. We continue to examine how to improve our operations in order to encourage new ideas and points of view. Over the last several years we have worked successfully to encourage the continual rotation of executive members in order to welcome new participants in the spirit of transparency, inclusivity and community-building.
I would like to take a moment to thank all the volunteers who put in their time and effort to contribute to this community; we couldn’t do any of this without you.
Enjoy the summer!
