Final Link to the Urban Wetland Jewel in Our Backyard

Over the past several years, the Transportation, Transit, and Infrastructure Committee has been updating the progress of the wonderful urban wetlands rehabilitation project on the west side of Moodie Drive.

There remains one final piece on the collective wish-list of the collaborating participants: the National Capital Commission, Public Service and Procurement Canada, the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority, the City of Ottawa, the Ottawa-Carleton Wildlife Centre, and Crystal Beach Lakeview Community Association. This remaining piece is a wildlife corridor for small mammals and reptiles connecting the Core Natural Area of the Greenbelt west of Moodie Drive with the Natural Link Area east of Moodie and along Stillwater Creek east.

There has now been approval from the federal government for funding of a feasibility study for the Moodie underpass. This is anticipated to be carried out through 2021-22. If the results are positive, we remain hopeful that completion of this portion would occur during 2023-24.

We also will continue to press for the completion of this corridor with an underpass at Corkstown Rd. which would have to be carried out by the City of Ottawa. The city is currently not in favour of this project, but we will continue our efforts to convince them otherwise.
