The 116th Nepean Scouts have been very fortunate to work with Doug MacKinnon since the group was founded 10 years ago. As a Scouts Canada volunteer for 3+ decades, Doug has positively impacted and inspired thousands of youth and adults. Unfortunately, Doug has let us know that he will not be returning as our Group Commissioner (GC) this September. Scouts Canada requires that we fill the position so that our group and its sections can continue to offer great Scouting adventures to the youth and volunteers in our community.
A GC is not required to have Scouting experience, but it is a benefit. Scouts Canada will provide training and resources (such as those linked below). After the training period, the role requires a commitment of 2-4 hours per week for duties such as monthly Group Committee meetings, reporting to Voyageur Council and for working with each section on safety, risk management, growth, etc. (Read more information about the role of the Group Commissioner.)
As we all look forward to the fall Scouting season, please reply as soon as possible if you are interested in helping our community in this important leadership position.
