Community Better Challenge Activity Schedule: June 2nd – 15th

Sunday, June 2nd

  • Pickle Ball & Tennis 10:30am to 3:00pm (part of our community’s annual “Wheel Day” – Corkstown Park)
  • Softball Tournament – Round 1 games at Maki Park at 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm.

Monday, June 3rd

  • 9:30am to 11:00 am – Maki Park Playgroup – unstructured Park Play (for the kiddos)
  • 1:00pm or whenever works for you – Give your brain a break for 10 minutes to do your own “Home or Office mini workout challenge” (ie. 3 sets of 10 jumping jacks, 10 Lunge steps, 30 second plank). Share a video and challenge your neighbours!
  • 5:45pm to 6:30pm – Groove Dance at Maki House with Rosemary Pearson
  • CRICKET – 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm – Abbott field (the baseball diamond near Moodie and Corkstown road)
  • Drop in Tennis. 8:00 pm to 10pm at the Corkstown tennis club.

Tuesday, June 4th

  • 8:45am to 9:45 am – Morning Walk – Andrew Haydon Park (at the stop lights of Corkstown and Carling Ave.)
  • 1:00pm to 2:30pm – Greenbelt Walk – Sarsaparilla Trail – Old Richmond Rd., north of Hunt Club Rd. Use Greenbelt parking lot P7.
  • 8:00pm – Sunset Walk – on the pathway by the lighthouse at Dick Bell Park

Wednesday, June 5th

  • Yoga : 10:00am to 11:00 am Maki House facilitated by Linda Cataldo
  • Walk: 1:00pm to 2:00pm Andrew Haydon Park (at the stop lights of Corkstown and Carling)
  • Volleyball – 6:00pm to 7:00pm Lakeview Park Court

Thursday, June 6th

  • Walk – 8:45am to 9:45am. Andrew Haydon Park (Meet at the stop lights of and Carling Ave)
  • Jog around the block – 1:00pm to 2:00 pm – Meet at Corkstown Park. We will begin with a dynamic warm-up, followed by a jog on neighbourhood sidewalks and paths. You can choose your pace and distance, and perhaps meet some new workout buddies along the way!
  • Soccer/Multi sport at Maki for youth – 6:00pm to 7:00pm – Maki Park
  • Maki Fitness – 7:00pm to 8:00pm – Maki Park. Facilitated by Rosemary Pearson
  • Waltz Dance – 7:00pm to 8:00pm – Maki Park – Come, learn to waltz at Maki House! Or if you already can, come practice, expand your repertoire, and help your neighbours learn: all skill levels welcome. Come one, come in couples, come all! No previous experience necessary, if you can walk, you can waltz. Dress lightly for a workshop, not a ball. Bring clean, comfortable shoes, a smile, and a water bottle.

Friday, June 7th

  • Cornhole (meet on the lawn area in front of the Riverpark Retirement Residence (1 Corkstown Rd.) for some community-building from 10-11 am.
  • 1:00pm to 2:00pm – Boccia (Bocce) All Abilities (Location: East of NSC parking lot; north of Carling Ave)
  • STREET HOCKEY – 6:00pm to 7:00pm – Lakeview Public School parking lot
  • DanceZumba! 8:00pm to 8:30pm at Maki House.

Saturday, June 8th

  • Tennis (family and youth: parents must stay) Crystal Beach Lakeview Tennis Club at 9:00am
  • Pickle Ball (family and youth: parents must stay) Crystal Beach Lakeview Tennis Club at 10:30am
  • Volleyball – Beach & Grass 6:00pm to 8:00pm (Abbott Courts off Moodie dr)

Sunday, June 9th

  • Mimi’s Street games for kids 4+ (10:00am to 12:00pm on Brookbend Cres.)
  • Horseshoes (1:00pm to 3:00pm) at Nepean Sailing Club
  • Softball Tournament – Round 2 games at Maki Park at 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm

Monday, June 10th

  • 9:30am to 11:00 am – Maki Park Playgroup – unstructured Park Play (for the kiddos)
  • Walk in Andrew Haydon Park (Meet at Carling and Bedale north side) 1:00pm to 2:00pm
  • Running with Richelle – Injury Prevention Running Session 5:00pm to 6:00pm (Richelle Weeks, a physiotherapist at Whole Therapy and a long distance runner will lead a discussion about injury prevention and a run of 5-8 km). Meet at Corkstown park for 5:00 pm.
  • School yard games: elastic, hopscotch, bean bag toss, hula hoop – 6:00pm to 7:00pm at Lakeview school yard. All ages welcomed and encouraged!
  • Drop in Tennis. 8:00 pm to 10pm at the Corkstown tennis club.

Tuesday, June 11th

  • Walk – Andrew Haydon Park at 8:45am

  • Basketball skills & 3-on-3 games – Location: Lakeview Park, 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm

  • Intro to SAILING– 6:00pm, Location: Grandview Water Access

Thursday, June 13th

  • Walk – Andrew Haydon Park (8:45am)
  • Pickle Ball – at Crystal Beach Lakeview Tennis Club (10:00am)
  • Soccer/Multi sport at Maki for youth at 6:00pm

Friday, June 14th

  • Bocce games 1:00pm to 2:00pm – East of NPS Parking Lot and North of Carling Ave
  • Water sports – Stand Up Paddle (SUP) boards. 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Nepean Sailing Club boat launch (on the Ottawa River). “Level Six” will provide SUP boards as well as experts to help anyone learn and try out the equipment on the water. Bring swim gear and expect to get wet.

Saturday, June 15th

  • Fishing Derby – 8:30am to 11:30am (Location: Ottawa River – peninsula by Lighthouse – Dick Bell Park). Boats welcome. No fishing Licence required on this special weekend! Tourney may include a trophy and be capped off by a rock skipping contest!
  • Softball Tournament – Round 3 games at Maki Park 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm
  • BBQ PARTY – 4:30pm to 9:00pm. A celebration of our community and people. Everyone is welcome to come to Maki Park for this final event of our challenge. Cheer of the final softball games between 5:00 pm and 8:00pm and get in on some side activities.
