The Britannia Winter Trail Association (BWTA) was formed by a group of committed volunteers to deliver a Britannia Park based multi-use urban winter trail to the community. A trail of approximately 6km was designed for the delivery of a proof of concept or pilot program to the community for the month of February of 2020.
So, what is a multi-use urban winter trail? It is a groomed winter trail for cross country skiing, walking, snowshoeing, and fat biking! For many years’ residents have been asking about a groomed trail to make it easier to get out and enjoy our winter months and last year the BWTA volunteers ran a successful pilot program for the month of February. The feedback we received was inspiring so we are committed to delivering our first official season to our community!
Our plans for 2021 include improving our grooming knowledge and expertise, engage our community to experience the trail and if possible, extend our grooming season. We are also investigating the future possibilities of trail extensions. In order to do so we need volunteers. We are presently looking for an individual to lead our Sponsorship and Fundraising program, as well as an individual to participate on our working group. As a not for profit organization we have put in place a wonderful working group of individuals from across Bay Ward. These individuals meet monthly to prioritize our activities and provide guidance to the Board. Would you be interested in joining our working group or lead our Sponsorship and Fundraising Program? If so, we would love to hear from you at BritanniaWinterTrail@gmail.com
We are so pleased with the support we have received from our community and hope to meet new individuals who wish to become involved in Britannia Winter Trail as a volunteer. For the latest updates, follow us on Facebook.
Let it snow!
